What is lightly sweetened, creamy, frothy, and with a healthy boost of antioxidants? If you guessed a matcha green tea frappe, you would be right! This isn’t any matcha frappe recipe, though. It’s a low carb frappe recipe! My green tea frappe recipe takes real food ingredients like matcha, almond milk, heavy cream, vanilla, and powdered Besti and blends them into a creamy, gorgeous keto frappe! It’s part dessert, part coffee-house drink, and oh-so-good!
Drinks featuring matcha powder are plenty popular, but most of the versions you’ll find out at coffee shop are loaded with sugar! Boo! Thankfully, it’s plenty easy (and much more cost-effective!) to make it yourself at home.
This recipe is for amatcha green tea frappe, but once you have the matcha powder, you can make any matcha drink!
What Is Matcha?
Before we get to our recipe, let’s talk about the most important ingredient: Matcha Tea!
Matcha is simply powdered green tea leaves. (The word literally means “powdered tea”.) Instead of steeping tea in green tea leaves like you would with regular green teas, matcha is the leaves ground into a powder and you actually drink the leaves. Matcha is commonly used in tea drinks, but also works to flavor various sweet recipes.
I was inspired to make this matcha frappe recipe when I received a sample of Zulay Kitchen Organic Japanese Matcha Green Tea. And here’s what I love about it:
- It’s super delicious – the most important part, right? 😉
- It’s 100% USDA organic
- It comes from Japan, the source of the best matcha
- It’s super fresh, pure, culinary grade
- It’s packed with antioxidants that can boost the immune system, lower stress levels, and even enhance mental function
- It’s high-quality Japanese matcha from a US-based company I can trust!

How To Make A Green Tea Frappe
Thinking agreen tea frappuccino recipe like Starbucks is hard to make? Think again! Thisketo frappe is ready in less than 5 minutes.
Here’s how to make a matcha frappe:
- Add ingredients to blender. Combine the almond milk, heavy cream, matcha green tea, ice, powdered Besti, and vanilla in a blender.
- Blend. Blend low carb frappuccino together until desired consistency is reached.
- Sample. Taste and adjust sweetener or matcha to taste. If you want it thicker, you can also add more ice at this point.
TIP: Use a liquid or powdered sweetener so that blends into thematcha frappe recipe. Using a granulated sweetener will result in a gritty texture.
- Serve. Pour into a glass and top with whipped cream. The whipped cream is (sort of) optional, but definitely helps it feel more like a fancyketo frappuccino!
Is Green Tea Frappe Healthy?
Yes, thisgreen tea frappe recipe is healthy! But, not allmatcha tea frappes are created equal.
This keto frappe is made with unprocessed ingredients like almond milk, heavy cream, matcha green tea, powdered Besti, and vanilla.
Matcha Green Tea Frappe Calories
Each serving of thisgreen tea frappe recipe has 156 calories. The blendedgreen tea frappuccino from Starbucks has 280, almost double!
And the carbs? The one from Starbucks has 62 grams carbs! Mygreen tea frappe has just 2 grams carbs.
Does Green Tea Frappe Have Caffeine?
Yes, thishomemade green tea frappuccino recipe contains caffeine. Each 1/2 teaspoon serving of matcha contains about 25-35 mg of caffeine.
One of the reasons that matcha powder (orgreen tea frappe powder) is so popular is that in addition to caffeine, it also contains L-Theanine, which is a compound that helps give a calm and relaxing effect – no coffee jitters!
Can You Make A Matcha Frappe Ahead?
Because thishomemade green tea frappuccino recipe is blended with ice, it’s best made fresh. Otherwise the ice will melt too much and it will water down theketo frappe.
If you wanted to prep it ahead of time, you could combine everything but the ice into a blender and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to make yourmatcha frappe. Then, all you need to do is add your ice and blend!
