9 Best Thrift Stores in Minneapolis (And the Twin Cities Suburbs) | Discover The Cities (1)

Confession: I’m writing this article with some hesitation. I mean, who wants to give out all their secret spots for thrift store finds?

And I’ve had some great ones over the years…

There’s the time I scored a brand new $300 KitchenAid Mixer for $50. Or my $1,000 West Elm Sofa for $20. (I’m lounging on it as I type this… sooo comfortable!) And of course, countless clothes, dresses and accessories that spark envy among all my full-price shopping friends.

But I care about you, dear DTC reader. So today, after years and years of deal scoring, I’ve decided to share the secrets.

Deep breath…

These are my picks for the best thrift stores in Minneapolis. (And around the suburbs!)

Just don’t tell too many people. 😉

My 6 favorite thrift stores in Minneapolis

Sure, some of these stores aren’t technically in Minneapolis proper, but they’re near enough to downtown Minneapolis. Plus, who cares about a quick drive when there’s discount treasures to be found! Am I right??

St. Vincent de Paul (Lake Street, Minneapolis)

I LOVE this thrift store.

St. Vincent de Paul is a 180+ year old, volunteer ran charitable organization with giving locations all around the country. Luckily, our Minneapolis spot is a total gem. From the super cool Minneapolis-inspired mural outside to the stacks upon stacks of stuff inside, this old school thrift shop packs a serious punch.

The space isn’t huge, but the size is decent and certainly large enough to stock an impressive (and organized!) collection of inventory. Lots of clothes, but also tons of furniture, home decor, books, and more.

Arc’s Value Village (Richfield)

The Arc Minnesota is a 70+ year old charity that supports children and adults with developmental disabilities. In the 1980s, they started their Value Village thrift stores to help fund the charity.

This Arc thrift store in Richfield is housed in a grocery store-sized strip shopping center location. When you step in you’re greeted by a sea of fluorescent lights which shine on… lots and lots of deals!

You can’t beat the clothing selection, but they also have lots of kitchen supplies. And for whatever reason, I always seem to find great shoes here. (Who knows!?)

Prices can be hit or miss, so this is definitely one of those thrift stores where it pays to do some digging!

Goodwill (Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, Bloomington, & Roseville)

Goodwill has tons of locations near Minneapolis. Sure, the “nonprofit” has run into some controversies over the years, but you can’t deny that Goodwill still has some of the best thrift stores in the area.

If I had to choose a favorite, I always seem to have the most luck at the South Minneapolis location. (Near Richfield at the intersetion of 35W and Highway 62) Although my absolute favorite Goodwill is out in the suburbs. (More on that later in this article…)

  • Address 3: 7845 Lyndale Ave S, Bloomington, MN 55420
  • Address 4: 2500 Cleveland Ave N, Roseville, MN 55113
  • Address 5: 1627 County B Rd W, Roseville, MN 55113

Salvation Army (Nicolette)

This little stand alone Salvation Army always seems to have some good deals. It looks like it’s housed in an old hardware store or something, and I feel like not many people know about it. Oh well, just more deals for us!

Sisterhood Boutique (West Bank)

The Sisterhood Boutique is a program developed by East African Women living in Minneapolis’s Cedar-Riverside Neighborhood. The program offers business and leadership experience for young women in the community, with the goal of ensuring all local girls have opportunities after high school. And for this article’s purposes, this good cause is funded by one of the most unique thrift stores in Minneapolis!

At first glance, you’ll think this shop is a high-end boutique. It’s a fanatically organized space with a great selection of curated clothing. But flip over the price tags and you’ll be shocked to realize you’re at one of the best thrift stores in Minneapolis!

Hidden Treasures (St. Anthony)

Hidden Treasures is a fantastic thrift store just north of Minneapolis. While they don’t have the world’s largest collection, the name doesn’t lie about the treasures to be found here, especially considering this thrift shop has some of the most reasonable prices in the cities.

More Thrift Stores in the Minneapolis Suburbs

Sometimes the hunt takes you a little farther out. I’ve found these thrift shops around the Minneapolis suburbs are always worth the trip.

Unique Thrift (New Hope & Burnsville, MN)

Unique Thrift is a huge thrift store that’s definitely worth the drive. Both the Burnsville location and the New Hope location are housed in huge strip-center locations, and inside both you’ll find endless rows of clothing, plus tons of every other discounted item you can imagine.

Goodwill (Minnetonka)

I had to throw a special shout out to the Goodwill in Minnetonka.

Out of the many Goodwill locations around the Twin Cities, I always seem to have the best luck in the Minnetonka location. Who knows why? (I suspect the well-off suburban locations might be more likely to donate high quality items.)

  • Address: 13820 Wayzata Blvd, Minnetonka, MN 55305
  • Website: Goodwill

Clothes Mentor (Edina & Eden Prairie)

Clothes mentor is a chain of pre-owned clothing stores. They have many locations around the Twin Cities, but I especially like the locations in Edina and Eden Prairie. I feel like the selection here is a little more business-y, which can be a good or bad thing depending on what I’m looking for.

Even More Thrift Stores in the Twin Cities

Of course, Minneapolis is just half the story of Twin Cities thrifting. To get the full experience, be sure to check out my guide to the best thrift stores in St. Paul!

What about Vintage Stores in Minneapolis?

We’ve got a guide for that, too! I wrote all about s.
